Turismo Andaluz
On Course to the Sun.
Turismo Andaluz, the regional tourism agency for Andalucia, home to each and every staging of the Volvo Masters has been a long-term sponsor of its flagship sporting event.
With over 70 golf courses established and more on the way, golf plays a key role in the Andalucian tourist economy, and the Volvo Masters at Club de Golf Valderrama showcases all that the region has to offer from tee to green.
Andalucia is the sunshine state of Spain, and over 500 km of magnificent coastline stretches the length of the region from Huelva in the west to Almeria in the east, but Andalucia offers much more than sunny, sandy beaches.
Taking its name from the Moorish Al Andalus meaning, 'Land of the West,' variety is the spice of life in Spain's most southerly region, over 100,000 sq km of magnificent scenery, snow-capped mountains, sparkling cities such as Sevilla and Malaga, national parks, tiny traditional villages and the busy, bustling port of Cádiz, gateway to north Africa where so many of Andalucia's influences began.
For many, the jewel in the Andalucian crown is the historic city of Granada with some of Spain's richest history and heritage, magnificent 13th, 14th and 15th century churches and the world-famous centrepiece, the Alhambra.
Andalucia offers something for everyone, from party central to the most magnificent peace and quiet and an all-year-round climate that is the best in Europe.
Although golf rules the sporting roost in Andalucia, the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountains, rising to over 3,500 m offer some of Europe's finest skiing, having hosted the World Alpine Ski Championships in 1996.
With a number of international and regional airports, an excellent road network ranging from the efficient Autovias to narrow, winding mountain passes and one of the finest selections of hotels and restaurants in Europe, Andalucia is amongst the very best tourist destinations anywhere in the world.
